Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for this position.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Maintenance Assistant position. This is a temporary/hourly position in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the New York City area. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform air handling filter changes and conduct fan coil maintenance.

Assist in the completion of minor rehabilitation special projects.

Assist with demolition of existing walls and floors; remove debris.

Assist with carpentry repairs and framing of walls, doors and windows.

Replace structural steel beams.

Assist with replacement of walls with waterproof barrier, drywall and insulation as needed.

Prepare surfaces for installation of tile or for painting.

Assist with installation of plumbing pipes and drains integral to building and campus operation systems.

Assist with installation of fixtures including toilets, sinks, shower bodies, shower heads, and washtubs.

Additional Comments This position is part of the New York City Special Project team, which is responsible for completing capital funded projects at various facilities within the New York City and Long Island area. The regional revitalization team concept was first adopted for the New York City region in 1984-85, and soon expanded to five regions that cover the entire state. The Environmental Revitalization Teams are made up of temporary general mechanics, maintenance assistants and laborer workers that perform ongoing maintenance and small renovation projects to augment facility support staff services. The teams operate on an ongoing basis, making visits at each OMH facility in the region twice each year.

Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
