Salary RangeFrom $31971 to $41227 Annually
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
Provisional candidates must have registered for and taken the Engineering Technician examination(s) in order to be considered for appointment.
*Candidates must provide the agency with a copy of their test registration code.
The minimum requirements for taking the Transition Examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months permanent competitive, non-competitive (including 55-b/55-c), or labor class service in a position allocated to a G-5 or higher.
The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional Examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have and three months of permanent competitive, or non-competitive service (including 55-b/55-c) as an Assistant Drill Rig Operator Trainee 1, Assistant Drill Rig Operator Trainee 2, Assistant Drill Rig Operator, Engineering Aide, Drafting Technician, or Environmental Engineering Technician 1.
Only the title(s) listed is qualifying for this examination(s).
After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment form the eligible list.
The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive Examination are:
Either 1. ONE YEAR of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;
OR 2. 18 semester credit hours of college course work in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics;
OR 3. graduation from a high school technical education program (recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting acceptable program practices and standards) in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering graphics, or electronics.
Duties Description Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Taking measurements.
• Checking computations.
• Collecting and compiling data.
• Making simple calculations.
• Performing inspections of small, relatively simple construction projects or portions of projects.
• Preparing and revising maps and drawings.
• Preparing portions of written reports.
• Occasionally traveling statewide to collect and analyze field data.
• Analyzing and processing traffic count data.
• Performing other duties, as required.
Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
