Minimum Qualifications • Potential candidates will have a BS or BA in natural resources, planning, forestry, environmental science, geography or GIS.
• Proficiency and experience with ArcGIS Desktop 10.x
Duties Description The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is seeking qualified candidates to fill two (2) GPS/GIS Technician positions. The positions are temporary/seasonal and located in Albany, NY at 625 Broadway in the GIS Bureau. Extensive field work and travel all over the state will be required.
Under supervision of GIS Bureau staff, primary duties include database development and maintenance, GPS data collection and processing resulting GIS data into state park database, cartographic production, and GIS analysis. GPS data collection duties include inventorying fixed assets (infrastructure) and utilities within a state park facility. Once inventory is complete, an interactive map of inventory will be produced in ArcGIS Online to share data with State Park staff.
Additional Comments Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Familiarity with Trimble GPS units (such as the GeoXT) and Pathfinder Office.
• Familiarity with ESRI tools and skills such as Spatial Analyst, cartographic representations, python scripting, model builder
• Familiarity with utility data collection is desirable
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Online is desirable
• GIS Certificate
• GIS Internship experience (unpaid or for college credit is acceptable)
