Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):
Bachelor's degree or higher in Biological Sciences, Engineering Science, Engineering (Any), Environmental Health, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or Physical Sciences INCLUDING 8 semester credit hours in chemistry.

A medical examination will be required prior to appointment, and you are responsible for payment of the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position. Eligibles will be called to the physical/medical screening in score order as needed to fill existing and anticipated vacancies.
Duties Description Perform health and safety assessments, inspections, consultations, and investigations in a variety of workplaces throughout New York State such as maintenance shops, campgrounds, administrative areas, hazardous waste/emergency response sites, construction sites, and laboratory areas, noting hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices. The position will require the collection of air samples (e.g., formaldehyde, wood dust, etc.) and measurement of other physical/health hazards using various industrial hygiene equipment such as air sampling pumps, noise dosimeters, ventilation meters, etc. The selection, set-up, and calibration of such equipment is necessary, as well as, preparing technical reports, based on findings, inspections and analysis of laboratory results.
Duties may also include, but not limited to, delivery of health and safety training, participation on health and safety committees, and maintaining calibration and inventory list of industrial hygiene equipment.
Additional Comments Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must be available for emergency response.
