Minimum Qualifications Grade 25 - Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Natural Science, Epidemiology, Environmental Health/Science, Health Evaluation, or related field AND four years of professional research experience in an appropriate field identified above; OR a Master’s degree and three years of such experience; OR a doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred incumbent will have experience in: occupational health investigations and research; fostering relationships with other federal/state agencies; working in research to practice in occupational health issues; identifying areas needing further research; and leading teams. The preferred candidate should also possess excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills as well as familiarity with industrial hygiene protocols.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Bureau Director, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing occupational health and safety programs using occupational health surveillance data to design worksite interventions. The incumbent will identify and define problems in order to conduct and perform necessary research and execute research plans to analyze and evaluate results, and prepare reports of the findings. The Research Scientist will provide oversight and coordination of technical and public health activities that affect occupational health and safety and will identify, apply for, and execute grants focusing on reducing risks for injuries and illnesses occurring within the work environment. Additionally, the Research Scientist will assess exposure factors for occupational illnesses. The incumbent will serve as a member of research teams and liaison with federal/state agencies in the coordination of interventions for work-related health outcomes, participate in work groups and conference calls on occupational health issues, disseminate results of surveys and studies, present results at scientific meetings and work groups, and publish them in peer reviewed journals.

Permanent, non-competitive, full-time. Occasional travel, including overnights and travel to areas not served by public transportation is required.
