Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service as a Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry), Grade 24, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having one year of permanent service in any of the qualifying titles of Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care), Nurse Practitioner (Adult Health), Nurse Practitioner (Community Health), or Nurse Practitioner (Family Health), Grades 24. In addition, you must be certified by the New York State Education Department in the Psychiatry specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry), Grade 24, position in the Division of State Operations, Office of Coordinated Nursing Services. Under the general direction of the Adult Services Medical Director and the OMH Chief Executive Nursing Officer, the Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) will develop and implement a state-wide plan for primary and long-term care coordination for individuals being discharged from an OMH Psychiatric Center (PC) inpatient unit to a Skilled Nursing Facility. The incumbent will work with Psychiatric Center Psychiatrists, members of the Treatment Team, the Discharge Planning Team, the PC, Skilled Nursing Facility Community Mental Health Nurse , Facility Business Officer, indicated Field Office Staff, and staff from the indicated Skilled Nursing Facilities on the collaboration, coordination and provision of enhanced supports to individuals discharged to skilled nursing facilities.
The incumbent will address practice issues for OMH Nurse Practitioners. OMH now employs over 100 Nurse Practitioners. This Central Office position will entail disseminating scope of practice guidance and addressing any scope of practice issues that arise in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The incumbent will nurture and ensure success of interdisciplinary collaboration amongst Nurse Practitioners and other professionals (e.g., nurses, psychiatrists). The role of Nurse Practitioners in the evolving telemedicine and telepsychiatry approach will also become increasingly relevant to this work.
The incumbent will be the lead for all aspects of Nurse Practitioner recruitment at OMH. This will include liaising with Human Resources, medical and nursing leadership, Psychiatric Center leadership, professional organizations, and all Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner training programs across the State.
Other duties may include providing clinical, programmatic, and policy input on all issues pertaining to Nurse Practitioners, in conjunction with medical and nursing leadership.
Additional Comments Posted Hiring Salary includes an Increased Hiring Salary ($5,757) and Geographic Differential ($20,000) added to the statutory hiring rate ($75,674). Geographic Differential added to the job rate ($95,534) for the PS&T Grade 24.
