Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be employed by New York State to be eligible to apply for this position.

Candidates must have permanent status as a Secretary 1, Grade 11, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of this position.

Candidates who are not transferring from a keyboarding title must possess adequate keyboarding skills (i.e., the ability to type 35 words per minute corrected) as demonstrated by passing the Keyboarding Performance Test.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is currently recruiting to fill a Secretary 1, Grade 11, position. This position is located in the Center for Human Resources Management, Bureau of Employee Relations (BER). The incumbent will perform the full range of secretarial duties in support of Bureau operations.

Specific Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide secretarial and administrative support to professional staff using advanced word processing.
• Maintains a database tracking - NODs, Grievances and performance Appeals.
• Tracks deadlines and generates required correspondence related to contract grievances and employee discipline.
• Makes required entries into the VPCR.
• Coordinate meetings and travel arrangements, and maintain calendars,
• Receive, record, and refer incoming correspondence and telephone calls.
• Interact in person and by telephone, and handle and/or refer inquiries concerning work activities/projects.
• Maintain files for assigned Bureau projects.
• Fulfill other support duties, as assigned.

This position is ideally suited for individuals who are highly motivated and organized, are able to work well both independently and as part of a team, possess good customer service skills, and enjoy a busy, challenging and creative work environment. Candidates who have experience with, or who have an interest in learning MS Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat are encouraged to apply.
