Minimum Qualifications PREFERED REQUIREMENTS:
Able to work independently or as part of a work team.
Able to operate a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe manner.
Basic computer skills preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS: Two years of satisfactory experience and/or training in grounds maintenance work. Must possess a valid NYS Class C or higher Commercial Driver License.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A Senior Grounds Workers is a working Supervisor responsible for maintaining the appearance and condition of grounds, athletics fields, walkways, and roads at State facilities. A Senior Grounds Worker supervises Ground workers and others and schedules and prioritizes work.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains appearance and conditions of grounds, roads, walkways and parking lots by:
o Sweeping, raking, shoveling and removing debris, leaves, branches, etc.
o Clears sites and prepares them for planting by raking, tilling soil, adding mulch and digging.
o Plants seeds, bushes, trees, etc. using hand or power equipment.
o Cuts grass using lawnmowers; fertilizes and waters grounds; prunes bushes and trees; removes or transplants bushes or trees.
o Removes dead trees by cutting and splitting logs using chainsaws and other equipment.
o Loads trucks with debris, logs, dirt, etc. using hand or power equipment.
o Performs and supervises snow removal and sanding of roads, walkways and parking lots utilizing shovels and power snow removal equipment.
• Supervises and schedules day to day work to subordinates.
• Assists in the planning or grounds projects including sketches, estimates of manpower, equipment and material to accomplish the job.
• Prepares requests for supplies and other materials needed for grounds.


• Provides training to staff and others within his field that may include participation and scheduling of mentoring programs in grounds in cooperation with campus operations.
• Performs routine building maintenance work and minor maintenance on equipment.
• Loads and unload trucks and moves furniture.
• Participates in the operation of a greenhouse growing flowers and other plants for spring planting
• Will be required to obtain proper certification to apply herbicides and other treatments as required.
