Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be reachable on the Secretary 1 eligible list or eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
To be eligible to transfer under Section 70.1, candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 9 or higher. If the applicant is not currently in a title that requires having passed a typing proficiency exam, or has not previously held a keyboard or secretarial title, the candidate must take and pass a typing proficiency exam to qualify for transfer.
Duties Description • Provide administrative and secretarial support to a Section Chief and Attorneys in the Litigation Bureau. This includes preparation of confidential materials and knowledge of Bureau and OAG protocols, procedures and resources.
• Update, maintain, and research computerized database of case files.
• Type and appropriately handle correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents for Section Head and other Attorneys.
• Proofread, review, and finalize correspondence and legal papers to ensure proper grammatical usage, clarity, factual correctness, compliance with policy, and conformance to instructions. Confirm that appropriate background material is attached.
• Distribute completed work product to appropriate attorney.
• Answer telephone, respond to questions concerning policy or procedures; refer calls to appropriate staff member.
• Gather data relevant to complex or unusual inquiries in order to provide a basis for reply and to insure all collected information is accurate.
• Schedule meetings and appointments, as requested.
• Maintain calendars for depositions, trials and other appointments, as requested by attorneys.
• Make travel arrangements, process travel vouchers and purchase requests. Maintain all associated records.
• Provide service and process of legal documents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
