Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or a USAFI GED certificate (high school level).
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with black carbon and ultrafine particle portable monitoring equipment. Experience with R software programming, ArcGIS and Tableau. Experience working with study volunteers.
Duties Description The Division of Air Resources is involved in a number of community air quality efforts. The largest of which is the Albany South End Community Air Quality Study which will run through summer 2018. The Engineering Aide will assist with preparing the portable instruments for deployment, collecting data with the instruments and documenting field conditions during sampling. The Engineering Aide will also assist with setting up and collecting data from temporary air monitoring stations and analyze data using MS Excel, Tableau and R. Data visualization and mapping software programs such as ArcGIS and Tableau will be used to generate results for quarterly reports to the community.
The Engineering Aide should have experience with analyzing black carbon, ultra-fine particle and traffic data from community studies and experience with managing large data sets with R. The Engineering Aide will assist staff with the Community Air Screen Program by using a variety of software programs to analyze data and prepare information in graphic and mapping formats for reports to program participants and will assist meteorological forecasting staff interpreting meteorological and air quality data.
Duties may include, but not be limited to the following tasks:
• Collect, analyze and interpret air quality data in preparation for quarterly community update meetings.
• Deploy portable monitoring equipment, collect air quality information and record field observations
during monitoring.
• Use data management programs such as Excel, R, ArcGIS and Tableau
• Collect, analyze and interpret meteorological and air quality data to assist in preparation of forecasts.
Additional Comments This is a part-time, seasonal position not to exceed 1640 hours per State fiscal year. Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
