Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description The person in this position would be assisting the Regional Coordinator of the Sportsman Education Program for Long Island and the 5 boroughs. The Sportsman Education Program provides hunter safety training classes required to purchase a NYS hunting license. The responsibilities for this position include the following: performing routine office tasks; stock room management; ordering and distribution of materials; maintenance and updating of supply database; answering and returning phone calls regarding the program; registering hunter safety classes in class database; assisting students in finding courses; responding to instructor requests; attending instructor meetings; assisting the Regional Coordinator in preparation and participation in special event and participation in public outreach events.
In addition to the Sportsman Education Program the person in this position would also assist in answering the general wildlife phone line, responding to general wildlife information requests, requests for information on hunting and providing information on nuisance wildlife. Additionally, the technician in this position would assist regional staff with collection and submission of wildlife specimens for the regional wildlife health program, assist with the collection of biological data on harvested deer, issue bonus deer management permits and conduct surveys/assist with other wildlife programs as needed.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Occasional weekend and holiday work is required. The position also requires early morning and evening work. Travel and overtime may be required.
