Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of a NYS two-year Plumber & Steamfitter Traineeship or NYS two-year plumbing training program; or successful completion of any equivalent plumbing two-year training or apprenticeship program; or four years of full-time experience in plumbing under the direction of a journey level plumber which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in plumbing or training gained by the completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. This position requires travel on the campus, between campuses and off the campus, therefore the incumbent must be able to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred or the candidate must demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Duties Description Position Summary:
The incumbent must be proficient in knowledge and application of the Plumbing Code, blueprint reading, all areas of work related to the plumbing trade including, but not limited to the following: plumbing fixture installation and repair; pipe system new installation and repair.
Responsibilities will include all plumbing and steamfitting work including planning and layout of work, determining causes of trouble in the plumbing and heating systems and equipment.
Must be able to supervise/lead other plumber/steamfitters as well as other skilled and semi-skilled employees in small group projects and day-to-day duties. Must be able to explain and demonstrate their skill and competency for this position; must communicate well with other employees; must have a proven track record of providing excellent customer service; must be able to understand and give instructions. Must have knowledge and understanding of hot water, gas fired heaters and low pressured boilers and their control systems.
The activities of other employees depend upon the availability and reliability of this employee, therefore time and attendance records will be considered in filling this vacancy. Candidates must have the ability to stand, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach and work at elevated heights using ladders or other equipment for extended periods of time; must have the ability to do moderately heavy lifting and to stand for prolonged periods of time.
