Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must be able to physically perform the tasks of the position and to communicate effectively to obtain and convey information. Must be able to demonstrate their reliability/dependability. Travel on the campus and between campuses may be necessary. If the candidate does not have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS they must be able to demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Institution cleaning experience is preferred. Must have an excellent attendance record and documented experience in supervising others. A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred.
Duties Description Position Summary:
Job duties for this position include performing a variety of general custodial tasks. General duties include, but are not limited to: using mops, brushes, buffers, floor scrubbers and other cleaning equipment to clean/wash floors, hallways, stairs, stair landings, stairwells, walls, partitions, furniture, ceilings and windows. Cleaning may require the movement of furniture and/or equipment. Thorough cleaning of bathrooms and kitchen areas. Changing light bulbs. Periodic snow removal from walkways. In all instances, the incumbent must be aware of and practice safe work habits, including but not limited to: wearing personal protective equipment, using ladders properly, following instructions on the use of cleaning solutions and properly inspecting equipment for any problems that could cause injury. The janitor must be able to lift medium to heavy objects; work from step stools and ladders; must have the ability to stand, reach overhead, bend, stoop, twist, and stretch for long periods of time. In addition to cleaning an assigned area, responsibilities include providing guidance and day-to-day assignment of tasks and general oversight of a small crew under the overall direction of a Supervising Janitor.
Candidates must possess and be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of cleaning procedures, products, equipment and a strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service. Good communication skills are important as is the ability to follow and give directions and instructions. Must be able to prepare written reports. May respond to emergency cleaning situations during shift. Travel within the campus and between campuses may be necessary. Since the activities of other employees depend on the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy.
