Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Higher Education.

70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service as a Veterans Education Program Representative 2 AND a master's degree AND three years of experience in professional administrative or educational experience in a college, university, post-secondary or higher education agency or professional association having oversight, regulatory or coordinative responsibility for higher or professional education.

70.4 Transfer: Candidates may be eligible for transfer to Assistant in Higher Education if they have standing on the Assistant in Higher Education list AND have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-20 or higher.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Assistant in Higher Education eligible list may be considered for appointment.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Professions (OP) is seeking applicants for an Assistant in Higher Education. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Higher Education Programs, the Assistant in Higher Education will assist in the Department’s efforts to bridge the gap between P-12 Education and the licensed professions by identifying opportunities to establish or strengthen pathways to professional careers and the interface between P-12 Education, Higher Education, and the Professions. The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the execution of a strategic plan to strengthen the connections between P-12 Education and the licensed professions;
• Assist the Supervisor of Higher Education Programs in identifying and establishing communication mechanisms to allow students of varying ages to gain exposure to the variety of existing professions;
• Represent the Board of Regents and NYSED by conducting outreach at schools, institutes of higher education, events, meetings, and conferences regarding pathways to careers in the professions;
• Assist in developing linkages to existing resources and implementing approaches to integrate this information with schools and colleges;
• Develop and distribute multimedia resources for schools and colleges;
• Work with institutions of higher learning to gather and distribute information on the educational pathways available to students interested in pursuing careers in the licensed professions;
• Respond to inquiries from schools, guidance counselors, colleges, professional associations, department staff and others;
• Work closely with internal and external partners to strengthen the connections between accessible quality health care professionals and student achievement; and
• Assist in the oversight of office initiatives, including preparing budgetary materials and providing scheduling support for outreach efforts.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. *Leads to a maximum salary of $86,398 based on annual performance advances.
