Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.

The minimum requirements for taking the Junior Landscape Architect examination are:

Either 1. a bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture.
Or 2. a Landscape Architect’s License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.

Junior Landscape Architects who have successfully completed one year of service and have passed Sections 1 and 2 of the Landscape Architect Registration examination (LARE) will be advanced to Landscape Architect, Grade 20 (beginning salary). Failure to obtain a passing result on both Section 1 & 2 of the LARE within the first year of service will result in removal from your position.

Duties Description Under the direction of a Senior Landscape Architect or Associate Landscape Architect, the duties of the Junior Landscape Architect/Landscape Architect may include, but are not limited to:

• Providing landscape architectural services and deliverables related to the review, planning, analysis, design, construction, management, restoration, and rehabilitation of land and landscapes associated with transportation facilities, buildings and institutions, parks, historic sites, recreation areas and other outdoor developed areas, Services and deliverables include, (but are not limited to): corridor planning, site analysis and selection, visual analysis, aesthetic treatments, site plans, grading, storm water management and erosion control, compensatory wetland mitigation design, planting design, vegetation management and preparation of contract documents (plans, specifications, estimates, etc.);
• Providing technical support for advancement of the capital program, maintenance and operations and special projects within the Bureau, to Management, to other MO sections and Regional staff for such topics as bicycle and pedestrian facility design, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policies and regulations, invasive species and pollinators;
• Assisting in the management of projects and consultants; working with other technical staff as assigned;
• Consulting and coordinating with other Department professionals, regulatory agencies and stakeholders concerning program and project requirements and needs, environmental analysis, and permits and approvals; evaluating proposed projects for their impact on adjacent State property;
• Developing and/or reviewing landscape architectural scopes, contracts, contract documents and contractor activities;
• Reviewing and/or preparing/delivering landscape architecture/environmental documentation, permits, guidance, training, official issuances and correspondence;
• Analyzing and researching environmental issues affecting the State transportation network (i.e. gathering data, writing reports, managing research projects and making recommendations to supervisors);
• Supporting current programs such as Scenic Byways, Rest Areas/Welcome Centers, Complete Streets and Context Sensitive Design; and the development of new programs in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies;
• Preparing architectural renderings, visualizations, map analyses, technical media and presentation materials for decision making, design development and delivery, and for use in training, public meetings, workshops, and hearings, utilizing various software tools such as MicroStation, Arc-GIS Photoshop and Powerpoint; and
• Serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
