Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Secretary 2.
Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must also be able to pass a typing proficiency exam.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Secretary 2 position in the Office of Instructional Support. This Office coordinates policies and initiatives related to accountability, assessment, bilingual education, curriculum & instruction, data systems & educational technology and special education in New York State. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Manage the calendar for the Deputy Commissioner, which involves scheduling many high priority meetings and rescheduling on short notice; prepare meeting materials as necessary;
• Make travel arrangements and prepare expense reports for the Deputy Commissioner;
• Review all travel and procurement requests for Deputy Commissioner approval;
• Serve as a team leader among the Offices of Accountability, State Assessment, Bilingual Education & World Languages, Curriculum & Instruction, Data Systems & Educational Technology and Special Education, including establishing procedures and communication protocols;
• Serve as key liaison with other offices within the Department;
• Provide technical assistance to callers and direct phone calls to the appropriate offices;
• Coordinate work schedules within the office to ensure adequate coverage;
• Assign, track and ensure timely responses to requests for information and completion of assignments from the Board of Regents and Commissioner's offices;
• Prepare letters, documents and reports, including formatting, proofreading, and distributing;
• Assist with preparation of presentations for Board of Regents meetings and other public forums; and
• Supervise office staff, as appropriate, and ensure staff are informed of office procedures.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $61,300 based on annual performance advances.
