Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and five years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree and four years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and two years of such experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have a PhD in clinical psychology and be licensed in the state of New York with at least 5 years of post-doctoral clinical and research experience in eating disorders. Extensive experience providing clinical service to diverse eating disorder populations including adults and adolescents with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, and/or other specified feeding and eating disorders. Exceptional record of research in eating disorders demonstrated by a record of accomplishment in state, federal, and/or foundation funding, a record of relevant peer reviewed publications, and an established national reputation in the eating disorders field. Prior experience in graduate and undergraduate education in psychology, including exposure to individuals with a range of psychopathology and training and supervision in evidence-based psychotherapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, or family based treatment for eating disorders. Record of training, supervising, and mentoring health professionals and scientists in eating disorders, psychological assessment, and evidence-based treatment. Strong communication skills and leadership abilities, and extensive experience working with academic, professional, and community-based organizations, including the translation and dissemination of research findings to members of these constituencies and the public at large.
Duties Description The Division of Clinical Therapeutics is a vibrant and nationally recognized clinical research unit at NYSPI. The Division conducts research and promotes education/dissemination of evidence-based research in the areas of mood, anxiety and eating disorders. Research activities include research design, grant writing, study set-up, study recruitment, study management including data management and data analysis. This Research Scientist 4 position is central to enhancing the mission of the Division and to the successful expansion of the Eating Disorders Research Unit. The emphases of this job include research (and dissemination of findings), clinical practice, education and administration. The role requires an established researcher, clinician, and educator in the field of eating disorders and a track record of successful work. The research scientist will serve as an integral part of a research team, developing, implementing and evaluating novel approaches for eating disorders treatment. The incumbent will be expected to (1) expand clinical services for adults and adolescents with eating disorders and (2) enhance clinical competence in eating disorders and evidence-based psychotherapies across NYSPI.
Additional Comments BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION/JUSTICE CENTER REVIEW: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
