Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the carpentry trade under a journey-level carpenter which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Park Manager the incumbent will perform journey-level work in the carpentry trade, and routinely perform semi-skilled work in mechanical repair and maintenance of equipment. The incumbent may also be required to perform other semi-skilled work such as plumbing and electrical repairs as assigned. The incumbent will inspect park facilities and equipment for deficiencies, make recommendations for corrective action, and effect repairs in coordination with the Park Manager. The incumbent will operate, maintain and repair hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, measuring and test equipment appropriate for the crafts that are assigned. The incumbent will be required to operate, maintain, and make minor repairs to motor equipment and heavy equipment such as, but not limited to, mowers, tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, snow plows, and utility vehicles. Although the work of the position is periodically inspected by the Park Manager, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a craftsman. The selected candidate will be assigned to travel to and work in satellite facilities under the purview of Lake Erie State Park including the Barcelona Lighthouse, Dunkirk Harbor Fishing Access Facilities, and Cattaraugus Creek Harbor on an as needed basis.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Candidates must possess journey level skills in carpentry as well as experience as a motor equipment or small engine mechanic.
• Candidates must possess experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
• Must be able to supervise small crews of temporary and permanent employees on jobsites.
• Must have the ability to read blueprints and execute work as according to plans and specifications.
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
• The incumbent must be available to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
