Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor of Science degree in biology, environmental studies, education, interpretation, or related field strongly preferred.
- Candidate must have prior experience working with the public and leading groups.
- Good writing, speaking, and organizational skills are preferred.
- Candidate must have the ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly manner.
- This position requires the candidate to be available weekends, holidays and occasional evenings.
- A New York State driver’s license is required.
Duties Description - Facilitate and organize summer and fall events and programs. Provide environmental educational programming for park visitors and special interest groups.
- Structure all programs around the site-specific themes of local history, wildlife, geology, forest ecology, and the Hudson River ecosystem.
- Expand already existing programs and events to engage a wider variety of audiences.
- Develop programming suited to special interest groups that attract visitors for weekend or overnight stays at the campground. This unique programming will attract audiences for topics such as learning to kayak, guest speakers, workshops, and crafting events.
- Work with the Audubon Society of the Capital Region, local sportsmen’s clubs, DEC, and local colleges to facilitate professional collaboration of park research, stewardship, and events.
- Create high quality and effective posters, press releases, mailings, and other media that publicizes and promotes park activities.
- Weekly update the park’s Facebook pages and websites to expand the reach of park promotional materials and build online communications and interest.
- Collect and manage photo release forms for events.
- Complete and submit monthly report outlining previous month’s programs, attendance, and list upcoming programs. Also keep an up to date Excel spreadsheet of program attendance for long-term statistics.
