Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must possess:

A Bachelor’s degree AND two years’ experience as a professional advocate or service provider in the field of rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, or mental health.

OR

A Master’s degree in a human services field AND one year of experience as a professional advocate or service provider in the field of rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, or mental health.

OR

Four years of experience as a professional advocate or service provider in the field of rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, or mental health.

OR

One year of experience as an Advocacy Specialist 1, Grade 14.

Candidates who have lived experience as a recipient of services within a child serving system and demonstrated leadership within the youth advocacy/peer support movement are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties Description The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), New York City Field Office, is recruiting to fill an Advocacy Specialist 2, Grade 18, position. The incumbent of this position will serve as a member of the Children’s Services team and represent the youth perspective in monitoring, planning, program development, and policies. The incumbent will work with stakeholders to reflect and advocate for youth in program development and implementation, as well as policy planning, and will work with families, residential facilities and clinics to support implementation of youth-guided policies and programming, as well as assisting youth in developing self-advocacy skills. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the development and implementation of the Medicaid redesign for new youth peer support services.
• Collaborate across systems to represent youth interests and represent youth perspective in program monitoring, planning and policy development.
• Coordinate regional and statewide opportunities for youth to network, exchange experiences, and provide mutual support.
• Assist youth in learning to advocate for themselves including the development of informational materials to assist youth in this effort.
• Collaborate with youth and family peer advocates across child serving systems for constituency building purposes.
• Provide technical support to promote youth-guided care and programming.
• Provide training to residential and community-based services staff on youth-guided programming.
