Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of professional investigative experience with law enforcement agencies;
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of professional insurance claims investigation experience;
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and one (1) year of professional investigation experience;
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree and eight (8) years of professional investigation experience in economic or insurance related matters.
Duties Description Insurance Field Investigators investigate fraud and collusion relating to the Workers Compensation and Disability Benefits operations of the New York State Insurance Fund (SIF). Incumbents investigate the operations and personnel of every department of SIF, and the activities of policyholders, doctors, lawyers, claimants, claimant representatives, and insurance brokers.
The incumbent in this position oversees and coordinates difficult and sensitive field investigations; oversees the workload, performance, and training of subordinate staff; researches and analyzes bankruptcy and other files; directs surveillance activities at work sites, private homes, and businesses belonging to claimants, doctors, and/or policyholders; interviews and obtains affidavits and testimonies from relevant parties; reviews and compiles reports regarding investigations for SIFs executive management; collaborates with SIF attorneys in preparation for trials, civil litigation, and/or Workers Compensation Board hearings; testifies at trial and/or arranges for witness testimony and the introduction of evidence at trial; drafts and serves subpoenas; and administers background investigations.
