Duties/ Responsibilities |
The Invasive Species Coordinator will be responsible for the management and coordination of the Department's program and efforts to ensure that New York State has a comprehensive and well-coordinated system for preventing and managing the many ecological, economic and human health threats posed by invasive plants and pathogens. This position will serve the Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets (or designee) in his/her role as Co-chair of the New York State Invasive Species Council (ISC). |

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications |
Candidates must meet the following requirements: a Bachelor's Degree in a natural science and six years of progressively responsible experience in a position with primary responsibility for supervision and/or the implementation and coordination of a major agricultural or horticultural program initiative, function or special project. |

Additional Comments |
Preferred qualifications: Communication skills and experience coordinating government administrators and private sector officials. Above-average understanding of Federal and state invasive pest programs; familiarity with the legislative process and private, public and non-profit organizations involved in the prevention of invasive species and ability to communicate these issues. |
