Duties/ Responsibilities

Under the Supervision of an Associate Auditor, the Senior Auditor conducts financial and operational audits of State psychiatric centers and OMH Central Office operations, as well as local providers of mental health services. The incumbent reviews financial records, assesses their accuracy, and evaluates the information against established criteria. The incumbent documents their efforts in work papers and follows generally accepted accounting and auditing standards to complete their work. The incumbent meets with the auditee, engages in meaningful discussions, and clearly communicates the results of the audit in a written format. Some travel is required.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Please Note: Individuals must be employed by New York State to be eligible for appointment to this position.

Candidates must be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 18 level. Examples of qualifying titles include: Bank Examiner, Data Processing Fiscal Systems Auditor 1, Insurance Examiner, Senior Accountant, Senior Examiner Municipal Affairs, State Program Examiner 1 Fiscal, and Tax Auditor 1.

Additionally, individuals in the following titles may qualify if they meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the continuous recruitment Senior Auditor examination announcement (number 20-822) available on the Civil Service website at www.cs.state.ny.us: Senior Health Care Fiscal Analyst, Senior Internal Auditor, and State Program Examiner 1.
