Duties/ Responsibilities

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an individual to contribute to a recently established unit. More than $1 billion is currently contracted to grantees in New York State in order to help detect, respond to and recover from terrorist acts and threats.

Under the supervision of an Associate Auditor, the Senior Auditor duties will include fiscal monitoring of grantees receiving federal Homeland Security funds throughout upstate New York, including counties, other local jurisdictions and not-for-profit organizations. Fiscal monitoring responsibilities include documentation review; on-site visits; review of grantee audit reports; as well as providing technical assistance to grantees on financial reporting requirements and contract compliance.

Notes:
Work Hours: Flexible.
Approximately 25% travel is required, including some overnight travel.
Previous audit experience and strong writing skills are preferred, but not required.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Transfer opportunity for a current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive service as an Auditor Trainee 1, Auditor Trainee 2 or Senior Auditor OR

70.1 Transfer to Senior Auditor, SG-18 - Must be current NYS Employee:
One year of permanent competitive service in the title Senior Accountant, Associate Auditor State Expediture*, Sr. Internal Auditor*, Sr. Examiner of Municipal Affairs, Insurance Examiner, Data Processing Fiscal System Auditor 1, Sr. Abandoned Property Accounts Auditor, Tax Auditor 1, Sr. Health Care Fiscal Analyst*, State Program Examiner 1*, State Program Examiner 1 Fiscal or State Program Examiner 1 Systems*.

*Must also have completed 24 credit hours in Accounting/Auditing.

70.1 Transfer to Auditor Trainee 2, NS=SG-16-

A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours of accounting and/or auditing coursework, and have one-year of permanent competitive service in one of the following titles:

Tax Auditor Trainee 2, Examiner Municipal Affairs Trainee 2, Accountant Trainee 2, Health Care Fiscal Auditor Trainee 2, Bank Examiner Trainee 2, Insurance Examiner Trainee 2 or Data Processing Fiscal Systems Auditor Trainee 2.



70.1 Transfer to Auditor Trainee 1, NS=SG-14 -

A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours of accounting and/or auditing coursework, and have one-year of permanent competitive service in one of the following titles:

Tax Auditor Trainee 1, Examiner Municipal Affairs Trainee 1, Accountant Aide, Health Care Fiscal Auditor Trainee 1, Accountant Trainee 1, Insurance Examiner Trainee 1, Data Processing Fiscal Systems Auditor Trainee 1 or Bank Examiner Trainee 1.



70.4 Transfer - Must be current NYS Employee:
One year of permanent competitive service in a title grade 12 or higher, have a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours of accounting and/or auditing coursework, and have passed the Professional Positions in Accounting and Auditing examination.

55b/c Program:
Individuals who are 55-b/55-c eligible as determined by the Department of Civil Service and who possess a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours of accounting and/or auditing coursework may apply for this position. Depending on your level of professional accounting/auditing experience, if any, you may be qualified for appointment to Auditor Trainee 1 (NS=14), Auditor Trainee 2 (NS=16), or full-title Sr. Auditor, G-18.
